Sinopsis [+]
In this work, La Fura dels Baus attempts to offer the audience a tiny taste, softened by fiction, of what the Dubrovka audience went through in that Moscow theater. The fiction appears divided into different levels: that of the terror imposed by the terrorist group, that of the terror countered by the Russian authorities as a response and that of a totally opportune allegorical play, Boris Godunov, that is being performed while the rest of the events unfold.
In 2002 a Chechen terrorist group occupied the Dubrovka theater in Moscow and took 900 men, women and children hostage. This senseless action had some parallels to Pushkin’s Boris Godunov, where an imposter tries to take power, and topple a corrupt government, yet everyone knows he will be no better than the ruler he hopes to supplant. The Russian government’s response to the attack only made the situation worse. The theater audience and their captors ended up becoming victims, some innocent, others willing to sacrifice themselves for their cause.
