OPERAS
Opera, as a total work of art, demands an in-depth
treatment of its scenic possibilities. The traditional supremacy of the musical
aspect over the theatrical aspect has been freed in recent decades by initiatives
such as those proposed by La Fura dels Baus. In the first two works pieces
termed as "cursed " in operatic circles have been staged. In Atlantida as in
The Martyrdom of Saint Sebastian the combination of audio visual elements with
a creative use of choirs, singers and actors and the proposal of a generative
set, without scene changes, has created La Fura dels Baus' own characteristic
style. For our next project, The Damnation of Faust, these scenic premises are
maintained, advancing towards a subtle and coherent interweaving with the musical
element.
